We Love Katamari is getting remastered for PC, rolling out for summer

Yesterday’s Nintendo Direct had quite a few fun surprises in store for gaming enthusiasts. One of those surprises came in the form of We Love Katamari Reroll + Royal Reverie, a remaster of the beloved sequel to the original Katamari Damacy. Until now, We Love Katamari has remained stuck on the PlayStation 2 ever since its release in 2005. So the fact that PC players will finally get the chance to experience We Love Katamari in some form will certainly please longtime fans. We Love Katamari will roll its way into players’ hearts all over again starting on June 2.

For those unfamiliar, We Love Katamari takes the simple, charming roll-’em-up gameplay of Katamari Damacy and expands on it with all sorts of gimmicks and wacky ideas. One level has you rolling a sumo wrestler into various foods to make him grow in size, while another stage turns your katamari into a campfire. If you love the kind of kooky humor that games like the Katamari series boast, then We Love Katamari will probably appeal to you.

We Love Katamari remaster comes with new extras

This We Love Katamari remaster contains a host of extra modes and features not found in the original release. Perhaps the most substantial new mode, dubbed Royal Reverie, lets players roll through five brand new challenges while playing as the young King of All Cosmos. For the completionists out there, the remaster also contains additional collectibles to find and roll up in the main levels. Other noteworthy features include a Selfie Mode as well as Eternal Mode, which removes the time limit for seemingly every level instead of just a select few.

Ideally, from a preservationist point of view, Bandai Namco would have rereleased We Love Katamari on PC in its original state with higher resolutions. But ultimately, it’s hard to complain about receiving new content for a renowned classic.
