Wayfinder has stealth-launched a gigantic patch ahead of its winter holiday event Friday

Fancy a bit o’ Christmas in Airship Syndicate’s Wayfinder? Good because it’s happening Friday. In fact, there’s a little preview open already, as last night, the studio – touting its new role as both publisher and developer of the game following whatever chaos is happening over at Digital Extremes that caused it to vaporize its publishing division – soft-launched its 0.2 patch aka Eventide. The intent was to push it out quietly so players can test it ahead of the formal release on Friday.

Most notably, the live patch includes the new awakening system for Wayfinders and weapons, the Senja revamp, five new weapons, a weapon rebalance, a small pass on Wayfinders and Wayfinder visuals, enemy AI improvements, visual upgrades for multiple zones, better loot drops, dyeable weapons, XP rebalancing, and an absolutely ridiculous list of bug fixes. The word “fixed” is used 1269 times.

As of Friday’s launch, the game’s first core live event will go live – that’s Eventide itself, a winter-holiday-themed romp that promises “gifts, revelry, and deep-fried gelatin.” The patch notes promise themed quests, challenges, cosmetics, bosses, expeditions, and music, through January 12th.

“We are incredibly excited for all of you to finally get your hands on what we have been working on, and ready to prove this is a new beginning for Wayfinder,” Airship says. “Thank you to everyone. Seeing the public shift the tides of the Steam Reviews into Mostly Positive in these last few days has truly put some strong winds in the sails of our Airship, and we have no intention of going anywhere until we realize those shared dreams. 2024 is going to be an exciting year and when we do launch v0.2 in the coming days be on the lookout for info on upcoming content drops… including a surprise that is currently under active dev as we speak thanks to YOUR feedback and prioritization.”

Do note that the update is out only on Steam right now as the studio is still waiting on PlayStation approval for the patch; console players can rest assured they’re not missing the holiday event as it’s not open yet anyhow. On PC, the game also “now requires an SSD.”

Airship’s AJ Saracina, newly promoted to producer, kindly kicked a few screenshots our way – incoming Christmas lights!
