Water From Disney’s Splash Mountain Ride Hits Ebay For $150 After It Closes Down For Rebrand

It’s the end of an era at Disney World and Disneyland, as the popular Splash Mountain ride is now closed for good ahead of its rebrand based on Princess and the Frog. With the ride shutting down, people are collecting water from the ride and selling it online to capitalize on the nostalgia.

eBay is full of listings for Splash Mountain water, with prices running as high as $150. The water for Splash Mountain presumably gets changed from time to time, but some of the listings mention that the water was collected on January 22, the last day of operation for the ride. Anyone buying this water should be aware that it could be totally bogus.

One person is selling intentionally fake Splash Mountain water poured from a kitchen sink for $25,000 to make fun of other people for selling the water. “I’m a Disney fan but come one people has the world gotten so doomed that people would buy water from a ride,” the person said.

In all seriousness, Splash Mountain is now closed at Disneyland and Disney World. Anecdotal reports suggested that the ride saw increased attendance in its final days, as people looked to get on one last time before it’s gone for good. Take a look at the video below to see a huge crowd getting in line for Splash Mountain at Disney World in Florida.

Splash Mountain, which debuted in 1989 in Disneyland and 1992 in Disney World, features characters from the 1946 movie “Song of the South.” The ride was criticized by some for its stereotypes about black people and the glamorization of the American South after the civil war.

Splash Mountain will get a significant overhaul and will be rebranded as Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, based on the 2009 movie Princess and the Frog. It’s scheduled to open in late 2024.

Announcing the rebrand in June 2020, Disney said the new ride will feature Tiana and Louis “on a musical adventure,” featuring music from the movie, as they get ready to perform at Mardi Gras.

“Tiana is a modern, courageous, and empowered woman, who pursues her dreams and never loses sight of what’s really important,” Disney said at the time.
