Activision and Infinity Ward have now formally unveiled Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, but it’s not the only major new Call of Duty game scheduled to launch this year. Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0, which is also seeing its development led by Infinity Ward, will launch later this year as well, and some brief details on that game have also been revealed.

While a full reveal will follow later this year, among the few tidbits on the game that have been confirmed so far, one particular piece of information that catches the eye is the fact that similar to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0 is also going to be a cross-gen game, and is scheduled to launch for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, Xbox One, and PC.

That’s significant because back when the game was initially leaked before Activision confirmed its existence, it was claimed that it would be releasing for PC and current-gen consoles also, with PS4 and Xbox One versions being dropped, due to Infinity Ward wanting to take full advantage of the better hardware of the new consoles.

Of course, as previously reported, starting with Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2.0, all Call of Duty games from this point forward will use the same engine, so if nothing else, we can probably expect integration of upcoming battle royale title with future Call of Duty games to go more smoothly than it has for the original Warzone in the past, which has had to be paired with games running on different engines from year-to-year.

At any rate, more details on Warzone 2.0 will follow later this year, so stay tuned for those. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, meanwhile, is due out on October 28, and will apparently cost $70 on all platforms.
