Swedish drama ‘Evil’ is coming to C4 Streaming in August courtesy of Walter Presents.

The new series stars Isac Calmroth, Thea Sofie Loch Næss, Alexander Gustavsson and was created by Jan Guillou.

Erik Ponti, a teenager in 1950s Stockholm, is the leader of a money lending gang who terrorizes his school. But at home Erik is at his abusive stepfather’s mercy and his only choice is to quietly take his vicious punishments. His mother can’t do anything but pretend it isn’t happening. She is just as trapped as Erik is. At least in school he’s the one in control.  After brutally beating a kid unconscious, he is expelled. As a last resort his mother sends him away to the prestigious boarding school Stjernsberg.

Knowing this may be his last chance, Erik promises his mother to break out of the vicious circle of violence. He meets Marja, a kitchen girl, and falls for her immediately. She isn’t afraid to stand up for herself, but she despises violence more than anything. He bonds with his new roommate Pierre, someone who might have been one of Erik’s victims at his old school. Neither Marja nor Pierre knows anything of Erik’s past life, and he feels like this could be the start of something new.

But when the older students try to make him submit to the school’s brutal fagging system, he is forced to choose between standing up, risking his future with Marja, or crawling out on his knees.

Walter Presents: ‘Evil’ launches as a boxset on C4 Streaming from 16th August 2024.
