V Rising, a vampire sim which flapped into Steam Early Access just a week ago, has sold one million copies.
That’s certainly good news for developer Stunlock Studios and, for players, it makes it all the more likely that V Rising will, at some point achieve its final form. Purchasing an Early Access title is always a risk, with the real possibility that the developer won’t deliver or, in some cases, disappear entirely.
V Rising made our list of The Best Vampire Games You Can Play Right Now, even in its Early Access incarnation and we’ll definitely be sinking our teeth into it again. It challenges you, as a vampire newly risen from your slumber, to establish a vampire empire, acquiring a castle, servants and more.

“V Rising can already provide hours upon hours of vampire based fun”, we remarked, though it’s worth bearing in mind that you can’t play it offline. Stunlock intend to incorporate an offline mode but, for now, you’ll need an internet connection to play it solo.
Or if you want to lean into V Rising’s online features you can pit your vampire against up to 49 other bloodsuckers. On top of that, if you’re missing the Legacy of Kain series which, itself has entered an age-long slumber, V Rising bears a passing resemblance to that series and could give you the mopey, vampiric fix you need.
It’s available for $19.99/£15.99 and, while it’s currently in Steam Early Access, it should see a full release within the next twelve months. The price could, correspondingly, rise, which is why (unless your internet connection is utterly dire), it makes sense to jump on V Rising’s neck-biting night-train now.
