The latest update also brings network optimizations for a smooth crossplay experience
Developer Iron Gate Studios has released the latest patch for their viking-themed survival game, Valheim, bringing crossplay support and network optimizations ahead of its PC Game Pass release on September 29th.
Despite the fact that Valheim has been in early access since its initial release in February 2021, it often receives new updates to add playable content and events in order to expand its open world inspired by Norse mythology. Before blasting its way onto the Xbox Game Pass tomorrow, the developer team released a new update on September 27th, with the official patch notes featuring minor changes for GUI and network systems to improve player experience.
According to the game’s Steam page, patch 0.211.7 includes crossplay support, allowing players to embark on their survival journey with their friends regardless of where they are playing from. The developer team provided some crucial details regarding crossplay compatibility, stating if players want to play together on different platforms, there will be an invitation code that players will use to join the game.

Valheim Update 0.211.7 Patch Notes
- Minor network optimization for in-game hosting (Less demanding for the host when other players are in the game at the same time)
- Join Game’ tab has been updated. Players can now add favourite servers, and see if a server is running, and if they support crossplay or not.
- Players can now use the parameter ‘-crossplay’ while running Dedicated servers to support crossplay. When using this parameter, the backend will be running Playfab instead of Steamworks. (A ‘Join code’ will appear when you join a Dedicated server supporting crossplay. Players can use this code to join the server. This Join code is regenerated whenever the server is restarted.)
- A new branch, “default_old”, has been added, where you can play on the previous Steam version of the game in case your server hasn’t been updated yet (Steam might need a restart for the branch to show up)
- A question mark indicates that a server status is uncertain, while a red X indicates that the server is down. If there is a “shuffle” icon next to the server status, that means the server supports crossplay.
Valheim is currently available on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam, with the acclaimed survival game joining the PC version of Xbox Game Pass on September 29th.
