That’s not how The Force works

According to new rumors published online, a release date is still up in the air for Ubisoft’s as-yet-untitled Star Wars release, which has been in development at Ubisoft Massive for several years now. According to Kotaku sources, an initial plan to launch the title by spring 2024 is on the rocks, with the open-world adventure possibly being pushed to spring 2025 instead.

First announced in January 2021, Ubisoft’s Star Wars release is being touted as a truly epic open-world experience, that will capture the scale and grandeur of the blockbuster movie series, along with its worlds and characters. The game is expected to follow a wholly original storyline featuring brand-new heroes and villains, but will feature themes, elements, and an aesthetic familiar to all fans of a galaxy far, far away. Another tale told in the expansive pantheon of adventures inspired by the Lucasfilm series.

However, it seems that the ambition of the title will see it pushed backward from its supposed launch date and — according to Kotaku’s sources, a delay is all-but-inevitable. In its most recent financial report, Ubisoft listed some of its upcoming releases, which included the stealth sequel Assassin’s Creed Mirage, online shooter XDefiant, and racer The Crew Motorfest. Given its crowded schedule and the size of the project, it’s a fair bet to suggest that Star Wars is at least a full year away at the very least.

Ubisoft’s Star Wars project is currently in development at Ubisoft Massive.
