Top Drives is one of Hutch’s premier titles, raking in a massive number of downloads in its lifetime of five years. Last year, the developers celebrated its anniversary with the awesome World Expo update that introduced over 300 hours of content alongside a complete overhaul of the game’s environment.
Hutch still remains as passionate about Top Drives as they were half a decade ago, and this is evident in their newly released documentary, Top Drives: 5 Years in the Making. The short film was first revealed at the 2023 London Games Festival and it details the development of the game through the eyes of the developers themselves.
The movie goes on to show Top Drives’ journey from a simple interactive spreadsheet, to over 104,000 daily active users right now. A small but dedicated community decided to take a leap and the game now features an ever-growing roster of nearly 4,00 licensed cars from the world’s leading manufacturers like Mustang, Porsche, Audi, McLaren, Bugatti, and Mercedes.
Describing their journey over the last five years, Jonathan Alpine, Chief Creative Officer at Hutch, said: “In the early days of the game, nobody at Hutch could have predicted where we are today. There were even times where the threat of driving Hutch into bankruptcy kept us awake at night! But Top Drives, thanks to both the creativity of our team and the outstanding community behind the game, has become a breakout success story.”
