Tony Gilroy Shuts Down Rogue One Re-Edit Rumors

Tony Gilroy, the writer and director who took over the reins for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story reshoots, has confirmed that there won’t be any future re-editing of the film. Despite speculation among fans, Gilroy put the rumors to rest with The Hollywood Reporter.

“I’m not going to go into any more detail,” Gilroy told The Hollywood Reporter in an interview before the writers’ strike. “But the more authority that you hear people talk about online about what happened on that movie, the less they know. That’s all that needs to be said.”

Gilroy went on to say that while there may have been unused footage that could have resulted in a different story, the version released in theaters was “the absolute best version of that movie that you could possibly imagine in the time that was given.”

Season 2 of the Star Wars TV show Andor, which will conclude the series, is expected to begin airing during August 2024. As of April, Gilroy confirmed that filming began in November 2022, and is projected to go until August–and then enter post-production for about a year. The second season will bring the events forward to where the movie Rogue One began. “You know where we’re going,” Gilroy said on a Star Wars Celebration panel. “You saw that Death Star blow up. We make that happen.”

As for the Star Wars video game series, Respawn and EA are launched Star Wars Jedi: Survivor on April 28.
