PlayStation State of Play

Have you got your eyes on PlayStation VR2? Then you’d be well advised to catch this Thursday’s State of Play.

The half-an-hour State of Play stream will, according to Sony, give people a glimpse of the games that are coming to Sony’s next-gen VR headset. On top of that, it’ll also feature reveals of several upcoming third party games.

In other words, don’t count on seeing first-party Sony titles like God of War Ragnarok, but we’re dying out find out which games Sony will launch alongside the PSVR2. Sony’s headset could, potentially, live or die on its launch line-up, especially now it’s got the Oculus Quest 2 to contend with.

“Hang on..”, you might be thinking.. “.. aren’t there over five hundred PSVR and PSVR-compatible games already out there?” You’re right and, with the correct adaptor, you can plug the original PSVR into a PlayStation 5. But Sony have yet to clarify whether those who purchase a PSVR2 headset will be able to play original PSVR games.

Making the PSVR2 backwards compatible is a smart move, though that doesn’t mean it’ll be easy to accomplish, technology-wise. But those who’ve got their hands on a PlayStation 5 have done so with the knowledge their existing PlayStation 4 games will work on the new console.

However, if the PlayStation VR2 only works with a handful of launch titles, it could make would-be early adopters think twice. and that’s if that the headset isn’t affected by the chip shortage that’s made the PlayStation 5 so scarce.

Whatever the case, you can catch the State of Play this Thursday 2nd of June at 3:00PM PT, 6:00PM ET, 23:59 CEST and 23:00 BST. It’ll stream through the PlayStation Twitch and YouTube channels.
