This Morning hosts ‘out of their depth’ as fans slam ‘car crash’ Rishi Sunak interview | TV & Radio | Showbiz & TV

Over the years This Morning has welcomed members of parliament onto their sofa with open arms and striking questions.

Alison Hammond and Craig Doyle were joined by Prime Minister Rishi Sunak on Thursday morning to discuss the latest immigration figures, the cost of living crisis and his new NHS initiative.

After their serious discussion, talk turned to his personal life where he spoke about his daughters and what he does to unwind.

However, viewers of the show were left disappointed with the interview and took to their Twitter to express their opinion on Alison and Craig’s interviewing skills.

User @geordiegalg fumed: “Car crash interview. Presenters totally out of their depth and letting the PM just blather on and on.

“Not taking him to task enough. No wonder he agreed to this, he knew he’d be in for an easier ride. #ThisMorning.” (sic)

@ameliabailey_ commented: “I like Alison but she’s really giving Rishi an easy interview … what kind of questions are these ‘When did you last cry ?’ #ThisMorning.”

@YouOmlette added: “The country is falling apart under these Tories, so let’s talk about Sunak’s well-off family.”

@technics_parts said: “#thismorning Hammond wearing glasses in a desperate attempt to look more intelligent.”

@unclemonty1984 penned: “I don’t think (Alison and) Craig are really primed for political questions, they let Rishi explain something else, and leave it #ThisMorning.” (sic)

However, not all viewers were let down with the interviews as @Lady9 praised: “#ThisMorning Loving Alison and Craig playing good cop bad cop with the prime minister. A much more relaxed approach, much prefer it.” (sic)

Discussing his private life, Hammond asked him when the last time he cried was, to which he revealed: “When was the last time I cried?

“Urm, something with one of our kids a while ago, it was a difficult thing but yeah,” leaving Doyle to lighten the mood and ask: “Do you cry at DIY SOS like the rest of us?”

Looking confused, Sunak had to confirm what Doyle had asked before awkwardly admitting: “That is not… no, that is not my strong point.

“You don’t want me anywhere near that one!” with the last question being what was his biggest regret.

Doyle teased the Prime Minister over the admission of reading Jilly Cooper books as he explained: “You need some escapism in your life.

“That is a good thing and whether that is TV you’ll watch or reading, it’s good to get away from your day-to-day right?”

This Morning airs weekdays from 10am on ITV.
