The Thousand Year Door frame rate, resolution

Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door is just about to make its return on Switch, and Digital Foundry has now provided some technical details, including frame rate and resolution. We have information about the graphical updates as well.

Here’s the full roundup of tidbits:

– Reworked textures almost everywhere
– UI elements reworked for modern TVs
– Totally rebuilt geometry
– 3D replacements for 2D sprites
– Screen space reflections (SSR) for reflective surfaces and screen space ambient occlusion (SSAO) now included
– SSR used to give wood, grass and stone a glossy sheen, though the technique doesn’t always with the paper theme
– SSAO, ambient shading especially noteworthy in interior shots with limited light such as Professor Frankly’s study
– More detailed shadow maps on Switch
– Light shafts added into some scenes
– Resolution is 1600×900 while docked
– 1138×640 resolution in handheld mode
– Limited anti-aliasing
– Frame rate is 30 FPS
– No frame rate dips
– Originally GameCube release ran at 60 FPS
– 30 FPS on Switch means there’s lateral 2D motion while running through towns and dungeons
