The Repair Shop experts Amanda Middleditch and Julie Tatchell were presented with a very special restoration during the latest instalment of the BBC series.

During the repair of an old teddy bear, Amanda made an emotional discovery when taking the toy apart.

Guest Debbie Murphy brought Teddy McNem to the barn, which was given to her when she was a child by her late father before he died.

Before the Teddy Bear ladies got to work, Debbie explained her beloved bear had lost an eye and her grandmother had previously tried to repair the other eye, which was also missing.

“When I was 12 years old, my dad died, so McNem is that connection with him,” the guest shared.

“Most of my memories are from photos people have shown me and things that people recall that we did.”

“I don’t remember his voice,” Debbie went on as she discussed the loss of her dad: “It was a huge shock.

“Teddy was with me and I took him with me to the funeral.”

After sharing her own health battles since losing her father, Debbie said McNem had been with her “through all the trauma”.

“I would like him to be loved again,” she told the experts. “He is so delicate and I have been looking at him on the shelf and I felt guilty because I can’t let him near my grandchildren.

“He’s got hardly any fur, the fur has been completely loved off him and he’s got a wonky leg, he’s got holes in his feet and he’s lost a lot of weight.

“He’s missing an eye completely and this one has been restitched by my nanny but it does need replacing.”

However, when it came to the big reveal, Amanda made an admission about Teddy McNem.

Debbie was blown away by the transformation of her bear, exclaiming: “He’s beautiful, look at his face.

“He can see, his nose and his little mouth, and he is stuffed.”

“We did keep some of the stitches your grandmother put, so we kept that one just to remind you she had done a repair, but what did you find?” Julie asked before Amanda went on: “Yes, something very exciting.

“Inside was his original eye, it had got lost inside him.”

And while the experts couldn’t restore the original eye, they did sew the item back inside the bear so Debbie could keep it.

The Repair Shop returns next Wednesday at 8pm on BBC One.
