Project: The Perceiver showcases its open-world and combat sequences in a new gameplay trailer.

17ZHE Studio and PaperGames have released another extended trailer for their open-world action game Project: The Perceiver, showcasing its combat and environment that includes a wide array of buildings inspired by the kingdoms of ancient China. The trailer also details the “Will of Acuity” resource bar which can be used to cast special skills.

In a 45-minute-long gameplay showcase, the developer team dove into the main aspects of Project: The Perceiver starting from the gimmicks of combat. First off, it has been revealed that players will utilize the Will of Acuity resource bar, which can be consumed to cast special skills during combat. As they spend more time fighting against enemies, the resource bar will be filled up, and players can consume it to cause sharpness with the “Mask of Devotion” skill.

The development team stated they wanted to make the environment historically realistic, referring to the architectural system of the tang dynasty. Moreover, they pointed out that there is no need to include luxury mansions, as it would not stay true to its source material. Players will explore courtyard houses reminiscent of ancient China, which are connected with zigzag corridors and terraces to prevent the gameplay experience from being monotonous.

Inspired by relics unearthed from Tang dynasty tombs, the game’s open world enriches itself with traditional Chinese buildings like pavilions, multistory towers, and overwater gazebos.

17ZHE Studio also provided fresh details on the game’s combat, which requires players to catch the moment when they dodge and attack. They will conduct special skills following defense and combine sword attacks with kicks to create electrifying combos. Although the previous introduction trailer showcased the right-click as defense, the devs revealed another way to fend off enemy attacks – spinning swords non-stop.

Other than that, enemies won’t be easy to hit, as they switch between defense and attack frequently. Players can apply heavy attacks to break the enemy’s shield during combat, which is driven by attack and defense conversions according to the developer team.

Project: The Perceiver is an action-adventure game that will release exclusively on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 at a currently unconfirmed date.
