The most exciting games shown during the Annapurna Showcase

0

Annapurna Interactive, the publisher behind modern-day classics like Stray, often releases indie darlings — and we just got to see some of its upcoming projects.

On Thursday, the Annapurna Showcase revealed numerous never-before-seen titles and made several exciting announcements. It was a stacked show and well worth watching if you’re into bizarre, creative, and relaxing video games. Here are our picks for the most interesting titles and announcements shown off during the broadcast.

The creator of Katamari Damacy is making a new game

Keita Takahashi, director of cult classics like Katamari Damacy and Nobby Nobby Boy, is working on a new game called Uvula. There was only a brief teaser for this one showing a frightening close-up of some kid’s throat. It’s weird, but hey, there was a cute dog too! The visuals featured Takahashi’s trademark cutesy artwork too.

Cardboard Computer is working on something new

Cardboard Computer, the studio behind Kentucky Route Zero, is creating a new game. There’s no title yet, and we only saw some early models of (another) dog. Apparently, it’s some sort of comedic tragedy. Despite the lack of details, this developer knows how to make a solid narrative-driven adventure. It’s fantastic knowing that the team is working hard on another game.

Outer Wilds will release on current-gen consoles

Outer Wilds, the spacefaring puzzler, is coming to PS5 and Xbox Series X|S on Sept. 15, 2022. No word if there’ll be any additional content, but the visuals are certainly a bit sharper. If you haven’t played this one, drop everything come (re-)release day. Folks that own the Xbox One and PS4 iterations also get the upgrade for free.

Oh, and the developer Mobius Digital also reassured fans that the Nintendo Switch version is still coming!

Solar Ash will release on Xbox Game Pass

Solar Ash, the beautiful action platformer, is coming to Game Pass and Steam this year. Previously, the game was only available on PlayStation consoles and the Epic Games Store. While the Game Pass version doesn’t have a release date, Steam is getting Solar Ash on Dec. 6, 2022.

What Remains of Edith Finch gets a re-release

What Remains of Edith Finch, the brilliant first-person narrative title, is available on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. As in right now. No, really — it’s up on PSN and Xbox Live already! These ports support 4K resolutions and 60 FPS, a considerable upgrade from last-gen counterparts. Anyone that owns the PS4 and Xbox One versions automatically gains access to the new ports too!

There’s a survival horror game with dinosaurs

It’s been far too long since a survival horror title featuring dinosaurs came out, and the folks at Great Ape Games clearly agree. The Lost Wild will stick players on a Jurassic Park-like island full of nasty ancient reptiles. Survival depends on listening to someone barking orders at you over the radio. It’s looking pretty spooky.

Dreamfeel is working on a game about cat people

Dreamfeel, the studio that brought us If Found, is making another game. We don’t know much about this one other than it’ll feature cat people in a fictitious version of Ireland while being some sort of coming-of-age tale. Given Dreamfeel’s reputation, this project will be a certifiable banger.
