The Medium TV Series From The Witcher EP Enters Development

Polish video game development studio Bloober Team will be adapting its 2021 psychological horror title The Medium with VFX company Platige Image. The news was shared on the game company’s official website, in Polish.

Translated into English, founder Peter Babieno writes that although this is the beginning of a longer process and there’s not yet a clear home for the series adaptation of the game, the Bloober Team project is in good hands with Platige Image. The latter company has long worked on many TV and film projects (including 2017’s Wonder Woman), and also trailers and animatics for a wide variety of video games (including The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings and Cyberpunk 2077).

“Both the film industry and the video game industry are close to my heart and I am very happy that there is finally an opportunity to bring them both together,” writes Bloober Team CEO Piotr Babieno in the translated message.” The story we told in the game was appreciated by players, and now more people will be able to hear about it. The latest hits of streaming platforms based on games such as Cyberpunk: Edgerunners or Arcane have shown that this is the perfect time for such productions.”

Both titles name-dropped by Babieno are on Netflix–and it should be mentioned that The Witcher, also at that streaming service and another Polish-originated property, just wrapped production on Season 3. Its prequel spin-off Blood Origin hits Netflix on Christmas Day this December. Tomasz Baginski, who serves as an executive producer on The Witcher, will be spearheading this new The Medium project–all of which would strongly suggest this upcoming adaptation will have a strong shot finding a home at Netflix.

Last year, GameSpot’s Jordan Ramée was very impressed by The Medium, awarding the game a 9/10 in his The Medium review. In the review, he praised how its narrative comes together as well as the challenging puzzles and excellent sound design. He called the game “a terrifying but compelling exploration of duality that uses the horror of personal trauma to craft a memorable tale.”
