A quick trip into the Black Lake around Hogwarts Legacy may sound exciting, but be sure to look out for giant lake monsters.
Hogwarts Legacy is a massive open-world game that’s built on the rocks of an already deep and extensive world. There are many different side activities to do during your year at Hogwarts, some being as simple as helping another classmate retiree some items from the lake.
While an underwater swimming feature is not included in the game, there are a few side quests that lead players to jump in and swim around the lake, where a massive creature has been seen within. This quest is pretty simple and can be finished early on for some easy rewards and cosmetics.
Beginning The Lost Astrolobe
To begin this quest, players will first need access to the open world. Head to the nearby settlement of Lower Hogsfield, which is only a short walk from the castle. Along the cast of the lake facing Hogwarts will be some docks to walk out onto. You’ll see a fellow student by the end of the dock; talking to her will give you the information and begin the quest.
Completing The Lost Astrolobe
After beginning the mission, a small area will be marked on your map a decent distance off the dock. While this game does offer a swimming mechanic, it can often be very slow and tedious to swim so far with. For those looking to speed up this quest and get the rewards, summon your broom and fly low over the water over to the marked area. From here you can dismount and immediately be dropped into the water. Whenever you’re ready to leave, you can also summon your broom despite being in the water, making for a much quicker journey than swimming alone.
Once you reach the marked location within the lake, swim around the marked zone to loot different areas from the ship’s wreckage. You unfortunately, won’t see anything beyond your character diving under the water, but there will be more to get here than just the Astrolobe. Each of the searchable locations will give you either a gear piece or the Astrolobe, so it’s worthwhile to check each location before heading back to return the item.
After retrieving the item, you can either swim back to the docks or hop onto your broom and fly back quickly. Return to the student and tell her you found her family’s Astrolobe. From here, you can either return the item or say that you will be keeping it for yourself. Neither option has a long-term impact on the game but will result in a different response from the student. You can also ask for more money in returning the Astrolobe, with the increase only being twenty galleons total. You’ll also obtain a unique cosmetic butterfly mask no matter which option is selected.
