The Legend Of Keanu Reeves Grows

Actor Keanu Reeves is known for his acting skills, of course, but he’s also become something of a legend off the screen with his many good deeds and general wholesome activities. That legend continued this week, as Reeves signed a one-day contract with the Windsor Spitfires of the Ontario Hockey League and will donate the proceeds of his signed jersey to a local mental health charity.

Reeves, many years ago, attempted to make the OHL as a goalie for the Spitfires. It didn’t work out for him, but the actor has now come full circle and signed a ceremonial one-day contract to officially have his name in the books. His jersey and a copy of his contract will be auctioned off, and 100% of the proceeds are going to the Canadian Mental Health Association of Windsor-Essex.

Reeves met with Spitfires GM Bill Bowler and co-owner Brian Schwab to sign his contract. Bowler said, “We are so proud to finally have Keanu on our squad.”

Spitfires captain Liam Greentree said, “We really could use some of those skills on the ice… Keanu will get along great with the rest of the team for sure. Definitely a welcome addition.”

If you’ve got deep pockets, you can bid on the jersey and contract–the current bid to beat is CAD $10,000 ($7,400 USD).

Reeves grew up in Toronto and played hockey in his youth and was at one point considering making a play to join the Spitfires (via EW). He instead pursued a career in acting and that worked out pretty well for him, having starred in the gigantic Matrix franchise, along with Speed, Point Break, and the John Wick series.

Reeves’ first major movie role was in 1986’s Youngblood, a film about ice hockey starring Rob Lowe and Patrick Swayze. Reeves seems like a pretty nice guy, as he’s known to give up his seat on public transportation, take pay cuts, and donate to charity without making a big deal about it.

In terms of Reeves’ future jobs, it hasn’t been confirmed yet, but many believe Reeves will star in the Armored Core episode of Prime Video’s Secret Level from Deadpool director Tim Miller.
