The Game – 8 tips for playing as the Demon

0

We’ve already got some Evil Dead: The Game Survivor tips, but in this guide we’re covering the lone player that appears in each game: the Demon. There are several Demons to choose from in Evil Dead: The Game, but each of them play pretty similarly until you start manifesting yourself on the battlefield.

Essentially, the Demon, for the most part, takes the role of an invisible overseer, able to break fences, place traps, and summon Deadite enemies for the Survivors to fight. As the Demon, you’ll win if you’re able to take out all of the Survivors, or perhaps destroy the Necronomicon, preventing your exorcism. For everything you need to know to get ahead while playing as the Demon, just read through our Evil Dead: The Game tips below.

Infernal energy

As a Demon, everything you do requires Infernal Energy. Luckily this resource is strewn all over the map, and does respawn over the course of a game. You can see your supply of energy from the bottom center red gauge on the screen. You will need this energy to summon enemies, perform Possessions, unleash boss creatures, and much more depending on the Demon you’ve chosen to use. Make sure to keep your bar as full as possible while exploring.

Upgrades

Tapping down on the d-pad will open up an upgrades menu, and you should be spending your points in here as often as you get them. Upgrades will allow you to perform new actions – you can’t actually summon those enemies and become a boss monster without upgrades – and you’ll also be able to inflict more fear and do more damage to your enemies. Do not ignore your upgrade menu, otherwise, you will almost certainly lose.

Traps

There are traps everywhere, and you should be arming them as often as your supply of Infernal Energy allows, but you should also think sensibly about which traps to activate. As the name implies, traps are activated when Survivors walk near them, and they’re great since you don’t need to intervene after setting them, but if a Survivor is never going to go near your trap, why place it? Unless Survivors are already nearby, you should set the traps which are close to the important items the Survivors need – these traps will almost always be activated over the course of a game.

Inflicting fear

Survivors are all susceptible to Fear, which gets inflicted whenever they take damage, are surprised by a trap, or Possession of an object. Sounds superfluous, but actually a filled Fear meter makes the Survivors far more vulnerable, especially to one move in particular…

Possession

Possession is the act of taking control of an object or character. Sounds simple, you can take control of the Deadite NPCs in order to hunt down those pesky Survivors, in addition to trees and certain objects. But even better, you can take control of the Survivors themselves. They’ll need a maxed-out Fear gauge in order for this to be viable, but when their Fear is high, they’ll be highlighted with a red outline. Use this opportunity to use a Survivor’s skills against their friends.

Placing portals

With enough Infernal Energy and the right upgrades, you’ll be able to place portals around the world, and these are essential. You can either place proximity traps that activate when Survivors get close by, or place portals that instantly spawn Deadites for you to fight alongside. When things get tough, these portals are essential to hold Survivors back from achieving goals. Make sure to upgrade the portals skill as much as possible to make the Deadites you spawn viable opponents for skilled Survivors.

Anticipating enemies

You have to ask, what are the Survivors going to do first? You can find this out best by taking a look at your map. You’ll be given the location of the map pieces and the Kandarian Dagger early on in the game, items you know the Survivors will be hunting down. That means you can go to these locations and place down traps early, and perhaps even possess a tree in order to scare someone. Since you’re only one person, and the Survivors are four, you need to work hard and think one step ahead in order to win.

The Necronomicon

The Necronomicon is the final goal of the game, and the Survivors are trying to use it to seal the breach, and exorcise the demon permanently. You need to stop them by destroying the Necronomicon, or killing the Survivors before they manage to locate it. Should they locate it, it’ll be a desperate fight to the finish. Make sure to load up all the traps surrounding the Necronomicon, and place as many proximity portals as possible before the Survivors arrive to cause problems.

Boss mode

Finally, your trump card is going Boss mode. Your demon does have a physical form, and with the right upgrades, you can wander the world and attack the Survivors directly. This is the most powerful attack you have an offer. When it’s a 1v1, there’s pretty much no way for a Survivor to overpower a boss. Only in a group can the boss monster be truly overwhelmed – and even then, with some back up from Deadites, a boss can come out on top with smart play. Each demon has a variety of Boss attacks, so find which one you click with best.
