The Final Shape Developer is “Holding Some Cards Close to Our Chest”, Says Director

Destiny 2’s The Final Shape is delayed after rumors of lackluster pre-orders, to say nothing of all the other controversy at Bungie. While the development team has plenty of other content coming up, including Into the Light in April, game director Joe Blackburn released a new video to provide his thoughts on the expansion.

“We know there are high expectations for the way that we’re going to put a bow on this ten-year saga of Destiny 2. We know that you all expect awesome, gorgeous new locations, a bunch of new stuff to fight, and a bunch of new ways to fight it, all alongside a story that has to stand side-by-side with some of the best stories our studio has ever told.”

Blackburn also teased that the team has been “holding some cards close to our chest on this one.” “And I’m going to ask that you bear with us for a little bit longer because we think a bunch of the systems and the gameplay are things you need to see, not just hear.” The Final Shape will receive new details and gameplay in April 2024, and the team wants the game “to speak for itself.”

Destiny 2: The Final Shape launches on June 4th, 2024 and will venture into the Pale Heart of the Traveler, where the Witness mysteriously vanished during Lightfall. Players have sought a way to enter the mysterious portal, with the next step likely involving Riven, the Ahamkara, and the 15th Wish in the next season.

The landscape inside of the Traveler features many familiar locations (including the classic Tower), some twisted by the Witness. Players will experience the story as a linear campaign when first entering and confronting the Witness at their fortress, leading to the raid and the final battle. After that, the location opens up with new activities to complete.
