The Day Before developer Fntastic has denied allegations that the game is a scam, saying the lengthy delay was planned even before the trademark dispute.
In an interview with IGN, studio co-founders Eduard and Aisen Gotosev explained the circumstances of the delay, “We planned to move the game’s release before and planned to announce it with Mytona in a 10-minute gameplay video. And then you all know what happened. So to be on the safe side, to ensure there are no more transfers, we, along with the publisher, chose November 10. That is a safe date, given the trademark dispute,” they explained.
The pair also addressed suspicions that the game is a scam and that it’s not actually in development, saying “We’ve been creating the game for four years. All these years have been full of sweat and blood to make this game, for many members of our team, it is unpleasant to hear such accusations. We didn’t take a penny from people: no crowdfunding, no pre-orders, no donations. The game is fully funded by Mytona, one of the largest mobile publishers in the world, who checked the game’s build at every milestone per our contract.”
This statement comes as a result of this week’s announcement that the game will be delayed until November following a trademark dispute. According to Fntastic, the trademark had been available at the time of the game’s announcement. However, a private individual then filled out an application to register the name ‘The Day Before’ in the United States before the developers did so.
Despite this happening two years ago, Fntastic only became aware of the issue this month. While the developer’s statement seemed to suggest that the delay was a result of the dispute, it would now appear that the two events are unrelated. Either way, it would appear that The Day Before is now scheduled for a November 10 release date.
The Day Before has been somewhat controversial ever since it emerged that Fntastic was using unpaid volunteers in the development of the game. The studio later clarified that it used the word volunteer as a synonym for a full-time employee, for some reason.
The most recent piece of media we’ve seen from The Day Before was a 59-second clip showcasing its NVIDIA DLSS3 support. According to Fntastic, a “lengthy gameplay video” will be released once the trademark issue has been resolved.
