On the run-up to Minecraft Live, the 2023 mob vote is slowly being teased to us. The first mob was revealed to be the crab, and now they’ve teased their second mob in the lineup. The armadillo. Is this better than the crab?

The mob vote has been a controversial long-standing tradition that has allowed the game to benefit from Allays, Glow Squids, Phantoms, and Sniffers, at the cost of many other mobs. Mojang will slowly reveal the three contenders during the lead to the mob vote, allowing players to get excited about the potential content for the game. This year, we’ve been shown the crab, and we’ve been shown the Armadillo.

The Armadillo, according to Tiny Jens, will ‘drop’ scutes, which can be crafted into wolf armor. Wolf armor is something that has been long-requested by fans, so to see this as a potential inclusion will really tip the balance in the Armadillo’s favor.

It is unclear how the Armadillo will drop these scutes, but it’s suggested that they’ll drop them passively and the creatures don’t need to be hunted down for them. Although if they were killed, I’d imagine they would drop some more.

The Armadillos were also shown to curl up into tiny blocky balls, but it’s unsure the behavior or nature of this mechanic.

The Armadillo will spawn in the Savanah, and potentially other hot areas, like the Badlands or the Desert.

I personally think that the Armadillo will be the more popular opinion between the Armadillo and the Crab, as most players love their Minecraft dogs. And being able to protect them further is something that most people will want. Although the Crab is cute, amusing, and is also useful, there is less sentimental value attached to its item, and players have been completely fine with the placement range so far.
