Taylor Swift and Scooter Braun legal battle to be made into documentary series

A new documentary detailing the feud between Taylor Swift and Scooter Braun is coming out in June.

The singer has been re-recording her first six studio albums after Braun’s Ithaca Holdings acquired Scott Borchetta’s Big Machine Label Group, which included Swift’s early work.

Now, a two-episode docuseries titled Taylor Swift Vs Scooter Braun: Bad Blood, will premiere on Discovery+ in June 2024.

The series, which will consist of two hour-long episodes, will explore the dispute and the lead-up to Swift’s re-recording decision.

According to Rolling Stone, the series is set to explore gender dynamics and fandom culture within the music industry.

Swift, who has released the re-recordings of four of the six albums as ‘Taylor’s Version’, has been vocal about the dispute over her masters, arguing that she was prevented from bidding on the purchase. She said in 2019 that she “learned about Scooter Braun’s purchase of my masters as it was announced to the world”.

Braun, however, maintains that Swift created a public feud by turning her fans against him, and “refused to negotiate”, according to a description of the upcoming series.

Back in 2022, Braun addressed the issue, saying: “I think a lot of things got lost in translation. I think that when you have a conflict with someone, it’s very hard to resolve it if you’re not willing to have a conversation.”

In a five-star review of ‘1989 (Taylor’s Version)’, the re-recording of Swift’s fifth studio album, NME wrote: ‘1989 (Taylor’s Version)’ feels more symbolic than her previous re-releases. Not only is it another step closer to having a full back catalogue of albums that she will own, but it’s also a celebration of the moment Swift really took ownership of her pop sound.”

The review continued: “By journeying into the past, it’s a reminder that the future of Taylor Swift may hold so much more that will continue to surprise us.”

In other Swift news, Charlie Puth has responded to his namecheck on the singer’s latest album, ‘The Tortured Poets Department‘.
