The Dark Knight Commander, Ozma, can be a member of your party; here’s how you can recruit her in Tactics Ogre: Reborn.
Ozma is another returning fan-favorite character in Tactics Ogre: Reborn. The whip-wielding Dark Knight Commander has a fascinating backstory to explore that links her to other members of your roster. She’s also a very powerful and fast attacker, and her unique class is one of the most versatile in the game.
Like many other Tactics Ogre characters, you’ll need to go through some very particular steps to recruit her, but this guide has everything you need to know.
Pre-requisites
Ozma can only be recruited on the Law Route. We have a complete guide to the game’s paths so you can be sure you’re on the right one. She can also only be recruited if you have Hobyrim in your party. He can be recruited earlier during the Law route, and we also have a guide to make it easier for you to do that.
Read The Talk Topic
At the beginning of Law Chapter 4, you will get a new Talk Topic called “Rift in the Dark Knights.” Read this before you commence any of the Chapter 4 story battles.
Then, after the battle at Mount Hedon early in Chapter 4, you will get a cutscene showing Ozma arguing with her fellow Dark Knight Commander, Volaq.
Recruiting Ozma
Once you have rescued Archiereus Mreuva from the Hagia Banahumba, return to Phidoch Castle and then Almorica Castle to progress the story. If you then go to Krysaro, you will trigger a battle with Ozma and Volaq. Ensure you bring Hobyrim to your battle party.
During this battle, you must first defeat Volaq and then reduce Ozma’s health to Critical (<10%) without killing her. This can be extremely tricky, as both of them are powerful attackers with high defenses, and they will inflict plenty of damage while you are trying to whittle them down. They are also accompanied by many Templars who also do serious damage. You should bring healing and try and save up your powerful attacks for the two leaders.
Once the battle is complete, you will get a cutscene in which Hobyrim reveals the truth of what happened. When you are presented with a dialogue option, you must select “As I owe you for my father.” After this, you will be able to recruit Ozma. You will also have a new entry in the Warren Report, “Balxephon’s Confession,” that gives further insight into the Dark Knights’ quarrels.
The Knight Commander
Ozma’s unique Knight Commander class is very powerful and versatile. She can use many different weapons, skills, and spells and is great no matter how you build her. Ozma’s preferred weapon is the whip, and she has a unique whip finisher Demon Rose, which does great damage and can Charm enemies.
