The upcoming remake is set to release in March.

Nightdive Studios has shared a new development update on the Kickstarter page for the upcoming remake of System Shock, reaffirming their plans to launch the game on the targeted release window of March 2023. The new update also shed light on the long-awaited remake of the cult classic RPG, showcasing gunplay, enemy dismemberment, and more.

In the update, the developer reiterated its release plans, saying that they “picked a few last things to share before the quickly approaching launch window of March 2023.” After multiple delays and a rough development period, it seems like the System Shock remake is near completion as the developer continues gunning for the release window.

It is worth noting that the long-awaited reboot has been in the works since 2016. And it is safe to say that the development process has had a series of rough patches as Nightdive Studios halted its efforts to bring back the classic RPG in 2018. After the hiatus, the developers picked up where they left off to deliver the reimagined version of the 1994 RPG.

In the past years, Nightdive has provided a great number of release windows and ended up delaying the title. The developer partly explains the reason behind the extended development process in its latest update, saying “this is not the first time announcing a tentative launch window, but over the past few years much has changed – the scope and scale of the project have evolved dramatically.”

While the developers are no strangers to extending development periods, the case of System Shock Remake has been especially long as it hasn’t been short of delays and drawbacks. That being said, the recent news gives good signals regarding the game’s current state. Back in 2021, Prime Matter announced that they would be helming the publishing process of the title. According to the devs, the partnership allowed them to “focus on quality-of-life improvements, bug fixing, and localization support – the last major steps towards releasing a game we’re all incredibly proud of.”

Apparently, joining forces with Prime Matter allowed the team “to back and polish various aspects of the game that needed that extra shine” as well. And after the six-years long development, the recent news spells positive things about the remake’s launch.

The upcoming remake recently revealed its pre-order bonus as well. Those who would like to get their hands on the reboot of the classic PC title can pre-order System Shock Remake, which comes with additional content like System Shock 2 Enhanced Edition, another upcoming project of Nightdive that offers enhanced controls, 4K support and co-op multiplayer.
