Respawn Entertainment has released a new gameplay video for Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, focusing on the game’s new duel lightsaber stance. The combat showcase (via IGN) offers a glimpse into the dual lightsaber action of Cal Kestis against a large group of enemies.
Respawn continues to share new gameplay footage ahead of the sequel’s release on April 28. And the new three-minute-long video shows off the new combat stance that allows players to wield two lightsabers. Fans will be able to see Cal as he switches to a dual lightsaber stance as soon as the enemies come in greater numbers. The young Jedi then switches to the dual-bladed lightsaber, which is one of the five stances in the game.
Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order allowed players to wield a lightsaber while fighting against droids and troopers when it launched back in 2019. But a great number of players thought that the title did not portray the full potential of using a lightsaber.
It seems like Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is going to change that as it introduces three more lightsaber stances alongside a myriad of new enemies, allowing the players to get even more violent and versatile during Cal’s dangerous journey.
Unlike the prequel, which only had two lightsaber stances, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor comes with five combat stances that make the young Jedi a much more dangerous warrior for his enemies. The five new stances of the protagonist are Single, Double-Bladed, Dual Blades, Blaster and Cross Guard. While the developers haven’t shared any details on Blaster and Cross Guard stances, the game’s Senior Design Director Jason de Hears talked to IGN about the Dual Blades stance, saying that they wanted to make it “a little more technical.”
According to the designer, Cal will now be able to “dodge or guard cancel the startup animations of an attack” with this stance. The remaining stances, on the other hand, require you to wait until your attack animation plays out. There is no doubt that this tweak will allow the player to be more agile during combat. But it comes with a catch, as it makes the player “a bit of a glass cannon,” says the designer.
It is safe to say that Star Wars Jedi: Survivor aims to introduce a new layer to lightsaber combat. But we will see how well it does that when it finally launches on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC on April 28.
