Survivor has been delayed to late April

Coming into the new year, we have a slate of highly anticipated games worth adding to the wish list. Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, the sequel to the suprisingly good Jedi: Fallen Order, was among them. Thankfully, it still is, though fans will now have to hold off a little longer to continue the journey of Cal Kestis. Jedi: Survivor has been delayed, but it’s not all bad news.

Game Director Stig Asmussen dropped the news today in a message to the community. According to the post, Jedi: Survivor has been delayed from March 17 to April 28 in order to improve stability and polish. Asmussen writes that the team wants to “hit the Respawn quality bar,” which requires a little bit of extra time.

As mentioned, it’s not all bad news. Certainly, a delay for one of the most hotly anticipated games of 2023 is always rough. But it’s only a mere six weeks, and the end result should be a much more optimized game experience. In this age of modern games launching with graphical hitches and drooping framerate, I’m fine with waiting a bit longer.

Jedi: Survivor gets delayed for polish reasons

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor takes place five years after its predecessor. Protagonist Cal Kestis is still a Jedi on the run with the Empire at his heels. The stress clearly shows on the face of an older, more weathered Cal, who is still joined by his robot buddy, BD-1. Other characters are returning, but Cal will also be joined by some new faces. In trailers, we see that the more experienced Cal displaying more mastery of the Force. In one moment, he’s flinging his lightsaber around with grace. In another, he’s able to “focus,” which appears to him as slowing down time.

Jedi: Survivor is looking like a bigger, better game. We hope that the extra polish needed will produce exactly that.
