Studio Ghibli has announced via a short teaser video that the studio will be teaming up with Star Wars creators, Lucasfilm. The 15-second teaser shows the Lucasfilm logo followed by the official Studio Ghibli logo, but the contents of the collaboration are yet to be confirmed.

Studio Ghibli is one of the biggest names in the Japanese animation industry, with the studio being established 37 years ago in Tokyo, Japan. Since the beginning, the studio kept its major focus on movie projects other than TV series, with its most noticeable works in films like Grave of the Fireflies, Only Yesterday, Princess Mononoke, Whisper of the Heart, Spirited Away, and many more. In fact, Studio Ghibli’s Spirited Away is the only anime to ever win an Academy Award in the Best Animated Feature category.

The news regarding Studio Ghibli and Lucasfilm’s combined project comes from the official Twitter account of Studio Ghibli. A fifteen-second promotional video revealed the official logos of both companies, revealing their collaboration for an upcoming project. But, exactly what the project is about has still not been confirmed. Interestingly, Studio Ghibli and Disney have worked on several projects before, with the latter also being a distributor for the former’s work in North America and also providing dubbing for their projects.

Fans were quick to begin speculating on what the upcoming project could be, with many believing it could be related to Star Wars: Visions’ second season. The first season of the series ended in September 2021, and the sequel was announced in May 2022. Multiple animation studios joined hands for the first season with Disney Plus, like Science SARU, Production I.G, Trigger, Geno Studio, and Studio Colorido, so it’s no wonder that Studio Ghibli will also be joining the team to make the upcoming season even better.

What makes the speculation more reliable is that right after the Tweet from Studio Ghibli, it was retweeted by the official Twitter account of Star Wars. An announcement was also made at the Star Wars Celebration event regarding the shorts that will be included in the second season from studios based in multiple countries like Japan, India, Spain, the UK, Chile, France, South Korea, and the US.
