When Tonioli claimed it wasn’t her best routine, he got booed by the audience, then responded by shouting: “Don’t you boo me. Don’t you dare.”

Derek Hough admitted there was “a little disconnect” and also got a backlash from the crowd, leading Bruno to cry: “We have to judge the competition.”

Speaking about the slip, Xochitl said: “It’s really hard. You can’t control things. I was a bit sad about it because it’s such an iconic part having the hat.”

Carrie Ann Inaba told the actress “Don’t be sad”, before giving her a score of 9, which was also matched by guest judge Paula Abdul, but the boys both went with 8.

Taking to Twitter, one DWTS fan said: “Xochitl wouldve gotten a perfect score if that damn hat prop was never used”

“I thought the first half was amazing and unfortunately with the hat incident, Threw the team off a little bit,” added another.

A third agreed: “Awww man!! I feel like without the hat mishap Xochitl & Val would have gotten 10s.

“She had a wardrobe malfunction. Couldn’t get hat on. U seriously can’t judge on that. These judges are on something tonight geez,” wrote a fourth.

It comes after the actress suffered a nasty injury during Halloween week, but she didn’t let it put her off.

She scraped her knee as she climbed an altar at the end of the first dance, but she was fine and was still set to participate in the dance marathon.
