Strictly Come Dancing star Amy Dowden has told her Instagram followers she is “determined to get back on the dance floor” following her breast cancer diagnosis.

Amy broke the news she had found a lump on her breast, which she later discovered was stage three breast cancer.

Despite being told by doctors her cancer was “aggressive”, Amy is trying to stay positive and hopes to get back to work as soon as possible.

Taking to her stories, Amy wrote: “Hey all, I’ve got some news to share. I’ve recently been diagnosed with breast cancer but I’m determined to get back on that dancefloor before you know it. Welsh Love Amy x.” (sic)

BBC bosses have also sent their love to Amy explaining they are there for the dancer “whenever she needs us”.

Sarah James, Executive Producer at Strictly Come Dancing told Express.co.uk: “Amy is an exceptional person, both on and off the dance floor, and is adored by her entire Strictly Come Dancing family.

“Everyone on the show is sending Amy all our love and she knows that we are all here to support her, whenever she needs us.”

Amy, who has battled chronic gut condition Crohn’s Disease since she was a child, said she went to the doctors straight away after she found a lump.

Speaking to HELLO! magazine, she said: “Everything happened so fast within that day. I went on my own and didn’t tell anybody, but when I was there, the nurse said to me: ‘You need to have somebody here’ and that’s when Ben found out.

“They told me it was looking very suspicious and to prepare for the worst, and hope for the best. They did the biopsy and then we had a wait.”

“All I wanted to know after I was told was: ‘Ok, what’s the plan? How long until I’m back on the dance floor?'” Amy recalled.

“My doctor explained to me that there are three grades, and three is the most aggressive, but they feel like they’ve caught mine early and to not be too alarmed because grade 3 would be expected in somebody of my age.”

Amy’s co-stars have also sent their good wishes to the star, with Tyler West telling Lorraine the dancer “is a fighter”.

During her show on Wednesday, Lorraine began: “Now, some sad news, in the last hour Strictly’s Amy Dowden has revealed very sadly that she has breast cancer.

“The dancer said she found a lump just before going on her honeymoon last night and Tyler of course you know Amy really well from Strictly. It is just really sad, I hope she is ok.”

“Amy is the Welsh dragon, she is a fighter and she is so strong, so inspirational and it really… it was a massive shock to the system for everybody this morning,” Tyler replied.

“But yeah… she is incredible Amy and I have no doubt she will be powering through it,” before Lorraine wished her all the best and to keep everyone updated.

Strictly Come Dancing will return to BBC One later this year.
