‘Stardew Valley’ update adds 40 new mines and fish frenzies

ConcernedApe has released a new patch for Stardew Valley, bringing 40 new mines and a fishing update to the sim.

Last month, Stardew Valley received an absolutely massive 1.6 update that included new festivals, a new mastery system and a new farm alongside fixes, “secrets” and easter eggs.

Shortly after that, creator Eric Barone confirmed the launch of a 1.6.4 patch that would feature “a new fishing thing, and some new mining related stuff”. Well, that patch has now gone live and it seems Barone was underselling it somewhat.

According to the patch notes, the 1.6.4 update includes various quality of life, gameplay and technical fixes as well as updates for multiplayer and a number of balance edits.

It also brings a wave of new content, including 20 new “alternate” mine layouts that will start appearing once a player reaches the bottom of the mines as well as 20 new volcano mines. These will appear after the shortcut between caldera and the volcano entrance has been unlocked.

Stardew Valley has also introduced “a special cutscene” that’s viewable after a player has helped their new neighbours grow their family to the max while pouring vinegar on a tree will now stop moss from ever growing there.

Ahead of a fishing-based festival set to take place this summer in Stardew Valley, ConcernedApe has launched “fish frenzies” which will make catching certain fish easier while fish tanks can now hold eight additional non-fish items. Four new fairy styles have also been added to the game. Check out the full patch notes here.

As it stands, the 1.6 patch is only available for PC players. Earlier this month though, Barone gave an update on when it would be launching for mobile and console. “They are in progress and will be released as soon as possible. I have no specific release date, but I will give updates if there is anything significant to share. I really appreciate your patience and understanding,” he wrote on social media.

Over the past week, fans on social media have also been using Chappell Roan’s new single ‘Good Luck, Babe!’ to soundtrack a queer romance in Stardew Valley.

In other news, Larian Studios has confirmed it is working on two new projects based on original IPs. “What we’re working on now will be our best work ever,” added CEO Swen Vincke.
