An upcoming game in the Star Wars universe that is still early in its development may introduce a new humanoid species to the long-running franchise.
In a recent podcast, the crew at Sacred Symbols revealed they had discovered information on a Star Wars-related project heaviliy involving a female character named Sarah. “Sarah is described as an athletic 30-something and is a member of a human-like race. This race is at the lead of some sort of empire called The Zaraan, a race not seen in Star Wars before,” said podcast host Colin Moriarty, according to a transcription originally reported by Video Games Chronicle. The consensus seemed to indicate that the project in question is related to Star Wars Eclipse.
The host goes on to explain that the Zaraan Empire, unrelated to the empire founded by Sheev Palpatine between the third and fourth Star Wars theatrical episodes, is an aggressive, militaristic society with little differentiation between gender roles. The aforementioned Sarah reportedly fits well into this society while her spouse has a “softer touch,” which seems to be a key plot point, as married couples act as a cooperative unit in Zaraan society.
Star Wars Eclipse was first announced during The Game Awards 2021, and reports suggest that it may still be several years before the game is released, so it’s not clear how much of these early reported details will make it to the final cut. News regarding Eclipse has been sparse, perhaps because of other Star Wars games that are coming down the pipeline in a much quicker manner, such as Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, which is due for an expansive reveal this December and has an anticipated launch scheduled for 2023.
Still, what we do know, as taken from the description of the game’s announcement trailer on YouTube, is that it will take place during the franchise’s High Republic era, which lasted from roughly 50 to 350 years before the start of the Skywalker Saga. The game’s official Website describes it as an “action-adventure, multi-character branching narrative game,” featuring never-before-seen sections of the galaxy as well as several new characters.
