The production house for the Spy x Family anime has announced at the AnimeJapan 2023 showcase that the franchise’s first-ever film adaptation, titled Spy x Family Code: White, will air on December 22. In addition, the anime’s second season will debut in October 2022 with Kazuhiro Furuhashi reprising his directorial role.
Fans are already in the know for a second season of the Spy x Family anime, as it was first revealed at the Jump Festa event in December 2022. A short presentation at AnimeJapan 2023 has revealed that the new season will debut in October 2022. The majority of the staff will reprise their roles in the production house, with Kazuhiro Furuhashi and Takahiro Harada returning as the chief director and the assistant director, respectively. Considering the approach of the first season, fans can likely expect the anime’s second season to split into two courses. The staff also includes Ichiro Okouchi as the script supervisor, Kazuaki Shimada as the character designer, and Shoji Hata as the sound director.
Perhaps most excitingly, the Spy x Family franchise will receive its first animated film, which will cover a new story that had not been told in the anime. The original manga creator Tatsuya Endo is attached to the project to design characters and supervise the directorial team. It is being animated by CloverWorks and WIT STUDIO, with Takashi Katagirl directing the film and Ichiro Okouchi penning the script. The staff also includes Kyoji Asano as the chief animation director and Kana Ishida as the sub-character designer.
As for the Japanese cast members, Atsumi Tanezaki and Kenichiro Matsuda will reprise their roles as Anya Forger and Bond Forger, respectively. Saori Hayami and Takuya Eguchi are also credited as Yor Forger and Loid Forger. A brand-new visual for the theatrical film has also got fans excited, with the reveal pulling in over 140k likes on Twitter in a few hours. Additional information about the story will be revealed later in the year.
The Spy x Family TV anime first premiered with a groundbreaking season in April 2022. Crunchyroll streamed the anime’s both courses as they aired in Japan. The second season will likely be available on the streaming platform with an English sub in October 2023.
