Splatoon 3 Splattercolor Screen controversy with health issues

Splatoon 3 introduced the Splattercolor Screen as a new special weapon for Chill Season 2023, but things haven’t gone smoothly as controversy has started due to some players unfortunately saying that they’ve been experiencing health issues when it’s in use.

There have been various reports on social media about the situation, such as from X users NoodleArms16 and chrysan_s – plenty of others are chiming in as well. Both physical and mental-related issues are impacting players with migraines, dizziness, minor pain in the eyes, and panic among the different problems that have been mentioned. Some have even passed out due to the special being very disorienting and loud to the point that people with and without autism expressed a desire to see the special weapon changed. This is not only from players in the west, but in Japan as well.

It’s unclear how many people are affected, though it’s clear that it’s impacting a number of players. Nintendo has done a pretty good job at patching Splatoon 3, and if there’s enough noise around the Splattercolor Screen controversy, the weapon could see some adjustments.

To give a quick rundown on the weapon, the Splattercolor Screen can make players lose the ability to see color. It has an ocular monochromatic effect, and enemies who touch the screen take damage. But for the deploying team, it is not a shield and it does not stop incoming ink.

Splatoon 3 Chill Season 2023 started on December 1 with a new stage and returning stage, a new King Salmonid, new weapons and items, additional weapon variations, new music from the “Chirpy Chips”, and a new seasonal catalog. You can read more about it here.
