Sony disables PlayStation Plus stacking ahead of its big revamp

Voucher codes will still remain valid, though

Sony is gearing up to launch its revised PlayStation Plus system. But before it does so, some transition work means that PlayStation Plus membership stacking is getting put on pause.

In an update to its FAQ (thanks, Eurogamer) Sony confirms it’s blocking PlayStation Plus membership “stacking” until PlayStation Plus Premium launches in June. Here’s the updated text:

“As we prepare to launch the new PlayStation Plus membership service, we are doing some work behind the scenes to make the transition as smooth as possible for all of our existing members. As part of this work, we’ve temporarily disabled stacking memberships for existing customers until after the launch. Rest assured that your voucher code is still valid, and you will be able to redeem your code either when your existing membership expires and deactivates, or after the new PlayStation Plus service launches in your area, whichever happens first.”

As Sony notes, codes will still remain valid. And if your Plus runs out, you’ll be able to use a code to re-up. It’s adding extra time on-top, or stacking, that’s on hold.

Stacks on stacks

Stacking is a big note, as users were noting that subscribers of both PlayStation Plus and Now were getting upgraded to Premium. Some reports of people grabbing up Now subscriptions as a loophole, to chalk up some cheaper months of Premium.

With this update, the loophole seems closed. Which isn’t too helpful, as the conversion charts for PlayStation Plus into the new Plus are a little confusing now. See below, via Wario64:

Still, some users managed to build up pretty hefty legacy subscriptions either way. The question now is what Sony will do for all those Premium subs. Some IDs spotted in the PlayStation backend indicate some titles are already getting prepped for the June launch.
