Sony confirmed you can no longer transfer games or game data between PS3 and PS Vita – and that this is a feature, not bug, in their most recent updates.

Earlier we reported that people can no longer create or manage PSN accounts on PS3 or PS Vita after their most recent updates. These patch releases are versions 4.89 and 3.74 respectively.

However, people also noted issues with trying to transfer their games from PS3 to the handheld device after this update happened. As it turns out, Sony have officially confirmed this is a feature, not a bug, from the update.

In the new announcement, Sony notes users are no longer be able to transfer games and/or game data between the two consoles.

Sony does mention that users will be able to directly download to their respective platforms, or they can make transfers using a PC. In the case of those who use a Vita wanting to make a transfer, they would have to get the content manager assistant and connect to either a PC or Mac of their choosing.

This news is a continuing line of Sony’s plans to eventually shutter their old PS3 and Vita stores. They had already set themselves up to shut down those stores along with PSP store.

Due to backlash from fans, they stepped back, but the PSP’s store still did close as planned. PayPal and credit card methods were also removed back in October globally. So the long march towards these products eventual end-of-life continues to move along.

What do you think of this news? Are you an owner of either PS3, Vita, or both? And if so, have you updated those consoles to their most recent updates or have held off due to these changes?
