Sony Announces Crossplay and System Requirements for Ghost of Tsushima: Director’s Cut for PC

Sony has detailed the features and system requirements for Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut for PC. This action-adventure game, set to release on May 16, is already available for pre-purchase on Steam and the Epic Games Store. Regarding compatibility with the Steam Deck, they haven’t said anything about it yet, so we’ll have to wait for the release to see if it works on Valve’s device.

PlayStation Interface, Cross-Play, and Trophy Compatibility

That includes support for Nvidia DLSS 3 and AMD FSR 3, which support upscaling and frame generation. It also supports Intel XeSS, as well as native smoothing modes for FSR and DLSS. This runs the game at native resolution but uses scaler smoothing to enhance image quality: read our explanation of Nvidia Deep Learning Anti-Aliasing for more information on this.

There’s a wealth of features here that means virtually every PC player will have access to performance-boosting technology. FSR 3 support at launch is particularly noteworthy. Adoption of AMD’s frame generation technology has been slow, and although we’ve seen it in recent games, it’s generally not available at launch.

Unfortunately, it seems that Ghost of Tsushima will miss out on AMD’s FSR 3.1 update at launch, which promises significantly improved image quality compared to previous versions. This update should be available to developers soon, so it’s possible that Nixxes will update the game with FSR 3.1 when it’s available.

Aside from scaling and frame generation, Sony says the PC version will support aspect ratios of 21:9 and 32:9 for ultra-wide screens, and even aspect ratios of 48:9 and configurations for three monitors.

System Requirements for Ghost of Tsushima on PC Sony also shared the system requirements for the game. It seems that the game will have four graphics preset settings, covering a wide range of compatible hardware.

Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut Will Have Crossplay

The game will come to PC with the same content as the PS4 and PS5 versions (i.e., the full game, the Iki Island expansion, and the Legends cooperative mode). PC players will be able to play with those on PS4 and PS5 (and use voice chat) in Legends.

Additionally, this title debuts the new PlayStation overlay, which includes our list of friends, trophies, settings, and profile used on Sony systems. It’s an optional feature that we can activate with a keyboard shortcut.

While playing the PC version, therefore, we can unlock trophies exactly the same as the console version. The good news is that this does not exclude Steam and Epic Games Store achievements; they will also be included.

The only requirement to use these new features (overlay, trophy system, friends, and cross-play) is to connect with a PlayStation account. In addition, Nixxes has also published the recommended hardware.

System Requirements

  • Very Low (720p at 30 fps): Intel Core i3-7100 or AMD Ryzen 3 1200, NVIDIA Geforce GTX 960 4GB or AMD Radeon RX 5500 XT, 8 GB RAM, and 75 GB hard drive.
  • Medium (1080p at 60 fps): i5-8600 or Ryzen 5 3600, Geforce RTX 2060 or Radeon RX 5600 XT, 16 GB RAM, and 75GB SSD.
  • High (1440p at 60 fps or 4K at 30 fps): i5-11400 or Ryzen 5 5600, Geforce RTX 3070 or Radeon RX 6800, 16 GB RAM, and 75 GB SSD.
  • Very High (4K at 60 fps): i5-11400 or Ryzen 5 5600, Geforce RTX 4080, Radeon RX 7900 XT, 16 GB RAM, and 75 GB SSD.

There are some key specifications to pay attention to. First, storage. An SSD is not explicitly required to run the game; however, Sony recommends playing the game with one. We saw how a spinning hard drive can hinder PS5 games ported to PC with Ratchet and Clank Rift Apart, so you should plan to install Ghost of Tsushima on an SSD.

Additionally, the Medium preset requires a GPU with 6 GB of VRAM. We’ve seen a growing trend with VRAM issues in modern games like The Last of Us Part One, but that doesn’t seem to be an issue here. If you have an 8 GB graphics card, you should be safe to run the game smoothly, at least at lower resolutions.
