Sega announced Sonic X Shadow Generations during the recent State of Play, and it’s a remaster of 2011’s Sonic Generations. However, it also includes a new campaign for Shadow the Hedgehog with new levels. In a PlayStation Blog post, the publisher confirmed that this campaign is standalone and separate from Generations.
Sonic Team creative officer Takashi Iizuka stated, “With Sonic x Shadow Generations, we wanted to bring Sonic Generations to PS5 and PS4 while pairing a brand-new Shadow storyline to crossover with the original story.
“With Shadow’s portion of the title, players will get to know him more as a character and understand his motivations. It will create the ultimate celebration of Classic Sonic, Modern Sonic, and Shadow gameplay that all fans will surely enjoy.”
According to the game’s Steam listing, Shadow’s story sees Black Doom suddenly returning and plotting world domination. The Ultimate Life Form must thus revisit old memories and take on familiar threats (like the Biolizard from Sonic Adventure 2 and Doom’s Eye from Shadow’s titular video game) to save the day. He’ll unlock some new powers throughout and maybe even go Super.
Sonic X Shadows Generations launches this Fall for Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, PS5, PC and Nintendo Switch. There will be more details will be revealed later this year, so stay tuned for further updates.
