Sofia Vergara is unrecognizable as she transforms into drug kingpin for true crime drama | TV & Radio | Showbiz & TV
Sofia Vergara looks totally transformed in her upcoming role portraying drug kingpin Griselda Blanco for Netflix.
In new pictures from the series, the America’s Got Talent judge has ditched her glamorous looks and totally changed her face with makeup.
One still from the show sees her looking bruised and bloodied, hinting at plenty of cartel carnage to come.
Titled Griselda, the series stars Vergara in one of her first leading dramatic roles for a major TV series after over 10 years on ABC’s Modern Family.
The six-episode limited series will tell the true story of Colombian drug lord Blanco, who rose through the ranks of Miami’s criminal underworld in the 1970s and ‘80s.
Griselda’s creators are no strangers to the cartel world, as the series comes from the masterminds behind Netflix’s smash hit crime dramas Narcos and Narcos: Mexico.
Although the new series won’t tie directly into the Narcos world, it will still be a must-watch for fans of those shows.
Plus, Vergara has the chance to prove herself as a major dramatic talent after being known for comedy, modelling and presenting for most of her career.
An official synopsis reads: “Griselda is inspired by the life of the savvy and ambitious Colombian businesswoman Griselda Blanco, a devoted mother who created one of the most profitable cartels in history.
“Blanco’s lethal blend of unsuspected savagery and charm helped her expertly navigate between business and family, leading her to become widely known as ‘the Godmother’.”
While the AGT panelist looks totally different in her new role, Griselda still gave her the chance to look stylish for the camera.
In one scene she steps out of a car wearing chic sunglasses and a fashionable low-cut shirt.
Another moment Vergara still looks fabulous while she grips a baseball bat and readies herself for a beatdown.
This is one of the actress’ first major roles since her highly publicized split from fellow actor Joe Manganiello.
They previously starred together in the drama film Bottom of the 9th, and he’s set to appear in The Kill Room with Uma Thurman and Samuel L. Jackson later this year.
Griselda will be released in January 2024 on Netflix.
