Atlus are back with another Daily Demon video for Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance to give us a look at one of the new demons added to the enhanced re-release. This time we’ve been given a look at Unicorn.

A demon of the Holy race, Unicorn has appeared several times in the Megami Tensei and Persona series, but was absent in Shin Megami Tensei V. It has since been added to Vengeance, meaning that players will be able to add this Legendary creature to their team in the upcoming expanded re-release. The Megami Tensei wiki has this to tell us about its origins:

A unicorn is a legendary holy creature. Though the modern popular image of the unicorn is sometimes that of a horse differing only in the horn on its forehead, the traditional unicorn also has a billy-goat beard, a lion’s tail and cloven hooves; these distinguish it from a horse. It’s said to be able to release lightning from its horn. It has a violent temper and all who approach will be swiftly struck down. However, it does not attack virginal humans and will even allow them to ride it. Some say that its horn can neutralize any poison.

The alicorn, the unicorn’s horn, was very valuable during the Middle Ages, which could be used to make very durable materials. This was believed to be the horn of the narwhal, as its teeth appear to be similar to what the unicorn’s was supposed to appear like.

Unicorns are said to have originated from Bicorns and once had two horns. They are also thought to have been invented later as symbols of good to oppose the “evil” bicorns.
