Self-proclaimed real-life Martha from ‘Baby Reindeer’ sends message to Richard Gadd: “Get a life”

The woman claiming to be the real person behind Baby Reindeer character Martha has done her first TV interview, and has directed a message to the show’s creator.

The semi-autobiographical series is based on the real-life experiences of comedian, writer and actor Richard Gadd – in which he was stalked by an older woman, who, in the series, is named Martha. The Netflix series became a runaway hit, topping UK viewership charts for the last three weeks.

Now, Harvey, who has come forward claiming to be the real-life Martha, has denied many aspects of the story, and has threatened Gadd with legal action.

During the interview on Piers Morgan Uncensored earlier this evening (May 9), Fiona Harvey discussed the details behind the hit series, and gave a message to its creator and star.

When asked by Morgan what she’d say to Gadd if he was watching, the Scottish lawyer responded: “Leave me alone please, get a life, get a proper job.”

She added: “I am horrified at what you’ve done.”

Morgan then asked Harvey to clarify whether she would “categorically be taking legal action,” to which she responded: “Absolutely, against both him [Gadd] and Netflix.”

Harvey clarified that neither her nor her partner who is a lawyer would be taking the case, but that she is “exploring all the options out there,” adding that “there are a number of people to sue”.

This follows Harvey’s recent interview with the Daily Record, where she dismissed the series as “a load of rubbish” and explained confirming her identity, saying “people have to know what is going on.”

Harvey also said: “I’m a perfectly capable lawyer so I will represent myself,” saying “Gadd needs to prove I went to jail which just didn’t happen. I’ve never been sent to jail.”

Neither Netflix nor Gadd himself have made a comment on the claims the Harvey  is the ‘real-life’ Martha.

Netflix’s policy chief Benjamin King said yesterday that Netflix and the production company “took every reasonable precaution in disguising the real-life identities of the people involved in that story.”

Meanwhile, Gadd recently spoke out about how he never saw the real-life Martha as “a villain”.
