Sega is planning on delivering several remasters, remakes or spin-offs, according to a recent investors report.

The report states that Sega are planning multiple titles including games that are a “Remake/Remaster, Spin-Off / Change of theme”. Change of theme is a little ambiguous but it suggests that Sega could be digging into their back catalogue to determine what’s worth resurrecting.

The report covers the 2022/2023 financial year, which suggests Sega plans to release these remasters during that year. Like a lot of major publishers, Sega has several IPs stored away, properties that haven’t seen the light of day in some time. There are a few titles that could be resurrected as part of Sega’s remaster push, including:

  • Space Channel 5
  • Fantasy Zone
  • Crazy Taxi
  • Dynamite Dux
  • Jet Set Radio
  • Shinobi / Shadow Warrior

The list goes on. No doubt Sega has done its homework and will be tackling these properties based on their popularity. We have fond memories of playing Dynamite Dux in the arcade, but we can’t honestly say there’s enough interest for a remaster/remake to be a smash. We were certainly happy to get our hands on the House of the Dead remake, though.

The report also mentions that Sega still intends to add female football to Football Manager. However, the company was planning this at least as far back as 2021, and missed out on including it in Football Manager 2022, so we’ll have to see if they can do the right thing this time around.

You can read the full report here – it’s heavy going, but if you’re interested in what makes Sega tick it’s still worth checking out.
