Sadiq Khan wants to bring ‘WrestleMania’ to London if he’s re-elected as mayor

Sadiq Khan has pledged to bring WWE WrestleMania to London, should he be re-elected as mayor for a third term.

On Thursday (April 25), Khan took to X (formerly Twitter) to announce his plans, adding that the nation’s capital will also attempt to attract the Super Bowl and NBA, as well as launching another bid for the 2040 Olympics.

“London is already the sporting capital of the world. If I’m re-elected next Thursday – we’ll go even further,” he wrote. “We’ll look to bring WrestleMania, Super Bowl and the NBA to London, and put together another bid for the 2040 Olympics.”

Khan’s post caught the attention of WWE’s chief content officer and wrestling legend Paul ‘Triple H’ Levesque, who replied: “Let’s talk.”

While WrestleMania has never been hosted in London before, the WWE has been holding more and more major events outside the US in recent years.

In September 2022, the WWE brought Clash at the Castle to the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff, Wales. The event will return to the UK in June, this time being held at the OVO Hydro in Glasgow, Scotland.

Last July, the wrestling organisation also brought Money in the Bank to London, marking the first time the event had been held outside of the United States.

Next month, WWE Backlash will be held in Lyon, France, while Money in the Bank will take place in Toronto, Canada, in July, and Bash will be held in Berlin, Germany, in August.

Earlier this year, the WWE announced that its flagship wrestling programme Raw will be shown on Netflix from January 2025.

The streaming service will become the exclusive new home of Raw in the US, Canada, UK and Latin America, among other territories, with additional countries and regions to be added over time. This also marks Raw‘s departure from linear television after 31 years.

Netflix is also set to show all WWE shows and specials outside the US, including its other weekly shows SmackDown and NXT, as well as the company’s Premium Live Events, including WrestleManiaSummerSlam and Royal Rumble.
