The PS5 iteration of Horizon Zero Dawn is reportedly in development at another studio.

Rumors are circulating that the development of Horizon Zero Dawn’s PS5 remake will be carried out without the involvement of Guerilla Games, the creators of the franchise. The port is reportedly in development at another team, which is rumored to be one of PlayStation’s internal studios.

As spotted by ComicBook, the leak comes courtesy of industry insider Colin Moriarty, who disclosed in the new episode of his Sacred Symbols podcast (paywalled on Patreon) that the Horizon Zero Dawn PS5 remake is not being developed by Guerilla Games. Although he did not reveal the studio taking the mantle of the remake version, Colin iterated that he has heard the game is at another team. “We’re also assuming that [Guerrilla] is making the Horizon remake thing there, although, if that’s real, what I’ve heard is that it’s at another team.” Needless to say, players should take this statement with a pinch of salt until Sony publicizes who is working on the PS5 iteration of Horizon Zero Dawn, or if it even exists at all.

Rumors regarding the remake or remastered version of the game first emerged back in October 2022, implying that it is on its way to PlayStation 5. Although information about the project is still thin, the latest rumor suggests it is being developed by another PlayStation studio. It would not be surprising that Guerilla Games won’t be involved in the port, given the studio is currently working on the major Burning Shores expansion as well as co-developing the Horizon: Call of the Mountain for PSVR 2.

Horizon Zero Dawn will supposedly be upgraded visually on PlayStation 5, as it will feature an improved graphical fidelity to use the power of the next-gen console. It will apparently bring plenty of enhancements and polished character models while retaining the fundamental gameplay elements of the original. Lastly, the rumored PS5 iteration will include overhauled textures and improved animations to match its sequel.

In other Horizon news, Guerilla Games is working on the Burning Shores expansion, which will release only for PlayStation 5 players on April 19, 2023. It will take players closer to Las Vegas, where they will battle against the Horus Titan.
