Routine, now that’s a game we haven’t heard in a long time. Announced way back in 2013, Routine was hit by delays, pushing it out of its initial 2017 release window. Rumors of cancellation swirled, and eventually many forgot the game existed. But developer Lunar Software and publisher Raw Fury weren’t ready to let it die so easily. Routine was re-revealed (like with Witchfire, apparently) today during Summer Game Fest 2022 with a new, creepy trailer.
Routine is a sci-fi horror game set in first person. Trapped in an abandoned moon base built during the 1980s, you are tasked to explore and discover what happened with the derelict structure. All the while, you must avoid robotic monstrosities that will no doubt snuff you out if you’re caught.
The premise is still pretty much the same as before. Provided with no weapons, all you carry with you is a Cosmonaut Assistance Tool (or CAT) in order to interact with computers found within the base. Gameplay in Routine looks quite similar to that of games such as Outlast, where sneaking around and avoiding dangers is what you need to do in order to solve the mystery and survive.
It’s been a long time coming
Four years is a long time to wait for any game, let alone nine. Routine has been on the backburner for quite some time, so it’s good to see that it’s still alive. It also has a Steam page, but details are sparse.
“Like many others, I have been waiting for this game for a long time,” said Jonas Antonson, CEO of Raw Fury, in a press release. “Originally, I thought I’d just get to experience it as a gamer and a fan. But then the developers decided to team up with us! I’m beyond excited to go this amazing journey with them.”
Routine‘s final release date is to be announced. Let’s hope we don’t have to wait another decade to solve this lunar mystery.
