Root of Nightmares – All Weapons, Ranked

Root of Nightmares is the latest addition to the raid roster of Destiny 2, launched with the Lightfall expansion. It is six player endgame pinnacle activity similar to Grandmaster Nightfalls. This raid also comes with its own set of six weapons which are also craftable.

These six weapons include a Heavy Grenade Launcher, a Heavy Linear Fusion Rifle, a Sidearm, an Auto Rifle, a Shotgun, and a Trace Rifle. These weapons also come with the origin trait Harmonic Resonance, which states: “Equipping multiple weapons from this set grants this weapon increased reload speed and handling. It also deals increased damage versus Tormentors, Lucent hives, and Guardians using their Super.”

6 Kroaxis’s Distress: Strand Heavy Grenade Launcher

Kroaxis’s Distress belongs to the rapid-fire frame of Heavy Grenade Launchers, which is a shame because this gun can roll with some insane perks. Heavy Grenade Launchers were never a meta option in PvE — even though they got buffed in Lightfall, it is still not enough.

In the left column, it can roll with Demolitionist, Chain Reaction, Reconstruction, Envious Assassin, and Field Prep. These are insane perks that synergize well with Frenzy, Full Court, or Paracausal Affinity in the right column.

5 Mykel’s Reverence: Strand Sidearm

Mykel's Reverence

Even though Sidearms are popular in PvP, the rapid-fire frame is considered one of the worst frames for sidearms, and unfortunately, Mykel’s Reverence is also a rapid-fire Sidearm. The stats of Mykel’s Reverence make this gun the best rapid-fire sidearm, and being a Strand weapon also helps its synergy with Strand builds in PvE, but unfortunately, just like Kroaxis’s Distress, the archetype of this weapon brings it down.

In the left column, it can roll with Pugilist, Rewind Rounds, and Perpetual motion for PvE combined with Hatchling, Paracausal Affinity, and Frenzy in the right column. For PvP, it can roll with Perfect Float and Elemental Capacitor combined with Tap the Trigger, Harmony, or Offhand Strike.

4 Nessa’s Oblation: Void Slug Shotgun

Nessa's Oblation

Nessa’s Oblation is a void slug Shotgun and is pretty amazing and usable in every level of content in the game — unlike Mykel and Kroaxis’s. Like all the weapons on this list, it has access to great perks options for both PvE and PvP. In PvE, however, you can go multiple routes with this weapon. You can go full ad clear or full DPS.

In the left column, it can roll with Demolitionist, Reconstruction, Repulsor Brace, and Envious Assassin for PvE, and no standout left column perk for PvP. In the right column, it has Vorpal Weapon, Focused Fury, Destabilizing Rounds, and Paracausal Affinity for PvE and an insane perk, Opening Shot, for PvP.

3 Briar’s Contempt: Solar Heavy Linear Fusion Rifle

Briar's Contempt

Briar’s Contempt is a Solar Linear Fusion Rifle belonging to the aggressive frame family. Even though Linear Fusion Rifles got nerfed in Lightfall, they are still a great DPS option, and Briar’s Contempt has the perks that make it the best Linear Fusion Rifle of them all. These perks make it the best DPS option for long damage phases.

In the left column, it has access to never seen before perks on a Linear Fusion Rifle like Reconstruction, Demolitionist, Rewind Rounds, and Envious Assassin. Combining that with damage perks like Focused Fury, Paracausal Affinity, High-Impact Reserve, and Frenzy in the right column, and you just got yourself one of the best Legendary weapons in the game.

2 Acacia’s Dejection: Solar Trace Rifle

Acasia's Dejection

Acacia’s Dejection is a Legendary Solar Trace Rifle belonging to the adaptive frame of the Trace Rifle archetype. Trace Rifles are getting a lot of love in Lightfall, with double Special weapons being very popular in the current sandbox, and Trace Rifles are the best option for double Special ammo builds as they are extremely good at ad clearing and melting majors.

In the left column, you have some great perks options like Reconstruction, Field Prep, Envious Assassin, and Rewind Rounds. Combine that with the insane perk, Incandescent, in the right column — or Frenzy/Target Lock — and you have an absolute monster of a gun. This gun is an all-around better version of its predecessor, Retraced Path, and it is without a doubt the best Trace Rifle in the game.

1 Rufus’s Fury: Strand Auto Rifle

Rufus's Fury

Strand weapons that launched with Lightfall were extremely underwhelming, like the Synchronic Roulette from Neomuna, but not this gun. Rufus’s Fury belongs to the Rapid-fire frame (the best archetype for Auto Rifles) and has some insane stats and synergy with the Strand subclass. Its stat package makes this gun the best rapid-fire frame Auto Rifle on its own. However, it has some extremely insane perks for PvE, and you must craft this weapon as it is, without a doubt, one of the best legendary weapons of this expansion.

In the left column, you have an insane perk, Demolitionist for PvE, and perks like Moving Target and Perpetual Motion for PvP. Synergize that with Frenzy or Hatchling in the right column, and you just might have the best legendary weapon in the game for PvE. For PvP, you can also most definitely go the route of Target Lock or Tap the Trigger. You can go multiple routes with this weapon; For Strand builds, this gun is the best option with the combination of Demolitionist/Pugilist and Hatchling. For general play, you have the option of Demolitionist Frenzy, and for endgame difficult content, you have perks like Rewind Round, Reconstruction, and Target Lock.
