Rockstar Reportedly Scrapped RDR & GTA IV Remaster Plans Recently

Red Dead Redemption and Grand Theft Auto IV are both incredible games that really need to receive official remasters from Rockstar Games, but it seems like the developer has no intentions for a GTA IV or RDR remaster anymore.

Looking back at the company’s track of launched games, you don’t see many remasters from Rockstar Games. Probably the last-gen version of LA Noire as well as the recently released Grand Theft Auto Trilogy is all we can remember from Rockstar Games when it comes to remastering older titles.

Unfortunately, none of the remasters above was able to bring significant commercial success to Rockstar Games, which seems to be the main reason why we don’t see anything regarding a remaster from the company’s biggest hits such as Grand Theft Auto IV and Red Dead Redemption.

TezFunz2, a reliable insider for Rockstar-related news, recently shared a tweet revealing that some credible sources have told them that Rockstar Games chose not to work on remasters for Grand Theft Auto IV or Red Dead Redemption a few years ago.

The insider didn’t reveal any reasons for this, but they guess the poor performance of Grand Theft Auto The Trilogy The Definitive Edition could be one of the reasons behind this decision. To be fair, if we are supposed to receive a remaster for GTA IV at the same quality as GTA Trilogy Definitive Edition, then it’s better to be avoided.

On the other hand, when Tez2 was asked about the possibility of a next-gen upgrade for Red Dead Redemption 2, the insider indicated that Rockstar Games indeed has a plan to launch the game on new consoles with an enhancement update, however, there is no information on its release schedule.

Currently, Grand Theft Auto 5 is available on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S with improved controls, ray-tracing, and some other visual improvements. And thus far, this re-release of the game on next-gen consoles seems to be a successful plan for Rockstar Games.

However, it remains unknown whether a Red Dead Redemption 2 release on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S could be successful enough to meet the financial goals of the developer.
