Epic Games has revealed the next free game coming to its store, Ring of Pain. It will replace the current offerings of Doom 64 and the Rumbleverse – Boom Boxer Content Pack on August 25.

Ring of Pain is a roguelike dungeon crawler developed by Twice Different that launched back in October 2020 after being backed by Humble Games. If you don’t know, Humble Games is the publishing division of Humble Bundle, the digital storefront best known for its charity bundles. Ring of Pain retails on both the Humble Store and Steam for $19.99 USD, with it receiving “Very Positive” reviews on Steam and a respectable 74% on Metacritic.

A feature of Ring of Pain that differentiates it from other dungeon crawlers is its card-based gameplay. So-called Card Crawlers are popular on mobile but have only recently begun infiltrating the PC market. Although there are other similar games in the genre, none are quite as polished as Ring of Pain. It’s a fantastic entry point for those looking to try out something new.

When it arrives on the Epic Game Store users will be able to add Ring of Pain to their library forever at no cost. Once redeemed, you can try out its 16 core path dungeons that lead to two branching endings. There’s also a medium and hard mode to unlock for those looking for more of a challenge. Other features include daily dungeons, four unique environments, over 300 items to find, and over 50 creatures to defeat.

More free games to come

Although we don’t know the games just yet, we do know that there will be more free games to come. Epic Games has been releasing free games on its distribution platform for almost four years now, starting with Subnautica back in December 2018. Since then, over 300 different games have been given away for Epic Games Store users to try out.
