Sea of Stars, an upcoming retro-style role-playing game, has reached the Alpha milestone. The title is now playable from beginning to end and remains on track for a 2023 release.
This week, indie developer Sabotage Studio shared the news on the Sea of Stars Kickstarter campaign with Update #29: “2022 Wrap-Up + Road To Launch.” The last major update for the game was published half a year ago and revealed that Sea of Stars will be available on both the PS4 and PS5 at launch. In the months since the PlayStation announcement, Sabotage Studio states that the team has prioritized meeting milestones.
The biggest reveal of the update is the achievement of the Alpha milestone. Sabotage Studio shares that the main path of Sea of Stars is entirely playable. “Game mechanics sing the way we were hoping they would, and the story has been finalized with all levels fully playable,” the developer shared on the campaign page.
The update highlights new features with short gameplay videos. These additions include cooking at a campfire, an academy where the protagonists train as children, and a monstrous boss. Provided they have the ingredients, players will be able to cook and eat health-restoring items like Tomato Club and Berry Jam. Sea of Stars’ main characters, Valere and Zale, are shown walking around Zenith Academy and meeting their trainer. The final video shows off Bosslug, a gruesome creature that appears to be a giant slug with thorns on its back.
With technical aspects realized, the next step for Sea of Stars is the Beta milestone, which marks content completion. Sabotage Studio adds that the Beta phase is only internal, as of now. “Onwards to the infamous BETA milestone!” shared the development team on Twitter.
Sea of Stars remains slated for release in 2023. However, the developer states that a specific release date cannot be confirmed yet. Backers eagerly responded to the Alpha announcement on social media and expressed their excitement for the game’s eventual release.
